Past Due

It has been over 6 months since out last post, and as you can imagine there has been a lot going on in the Zurliene household. Mommy went back to school in August, and Daddy started a new job at Graff's Turf Farms, so Zach and Tristan welcomed their new nanny Allison into our home. After Zach's spinal defects clinic in September, it was discovered that his spine was curving very severly and so Zach was placed in a Risser cast in October to begin the process of straightening his spine while improving his posture and breathing. He took to the cast very well, and after a few weeks of re-learning some of the things he was able to do before the cast, he was back to the old Zach.
Thanksgiving was fun at home with Mimi and Papa, then a visit from Aunt Kelly and Uncle Dana for Zach and Tristan's penguin birthday party! Zach had his second cast put on just before Christmas, and we celebrated at home with just the four of us. Mimi and Papa moved into their new house just before New Year's. It will sure be nice to have some more family close by (albeit for a month or so at a time!).
Grandma came out after the New Year and spent a fun filled week with the boys. Zach began a new chapter in his life when he started pre-school classes two days a week at Erie Elementary!
His teacher is Mrs. Ming Li, and after being a little sad the first day, Zach has flourished! He looks forward to his Tuesday and Thursday morning trips, and has made some new friends as well.
February has come and almost gone so quickly. We had a great Valentine's Day, and the boys were excited to get cards and "treats". Today, we are at Children's Hospital for Zach to have his third cast put on. Shortly after leaving Zach in the operating room, we received a call from the doctor informing us that Zach has a large sore on his back that will need immediate attention and prevent a new casting for at least a couple of weeks. We had noticed a strong odor coming from Zach's cast the last few weeks, but he wasn't complaining of any pain, and we thought it was just a wet cast as a result of his "sweating" a few weeks ago when he had a slight fever. So now we will allow the sore to heal and hopefully can continue to improve his scoliosis through a hard brace that he was fitted for today. Our updates will be more frequent in the future, and we will keep posting updates on Zach's progress.
