What an incredibly rewarding and exhausting day yesterday was. I just want to say that Zachary Chase is the most amazing little guy I have ever had the privilege of knowing (of course I am a little biased as his proud father). Kimmie calls him her little fighter, and I have to agree. He has been through more in his first day of life than I have been through in my entire 30+ years on this earth. Everything he does seems to just amaze me.
As for yesterday, it was a very long day of arriving in -10 degree temps at the hospital @ 6:15am, getting Kimmie prepped and into her C-section @ 8:15am, delivering and caring for little Zach @ 8:57am (6lbs 5oz; 18in long), following him down to the NICU and getting Kimmie stitched up and into recovery, moving Kimmie into her room, and visiting Zach many times throughout the day in the NICU, prepping him for surgery, waiting to hear back from Dr. Handler, and saying goodnight around 11:30pm. It was tiring to say the least, but all of the doctors and nurses that have worked with us have been extremely kind, helpful, and wonderful to Zachary and to Kimmie and I.
As for today, we're trying to get some rest. Zachary is sedated and sleeping on a respirator with his butt in the air to prevent fluid from draining to his sutures. Dr Handler sad he will be in this position for 2-3 days, so we'll keep monitoring him and pray for the best. It's hard to not be able to hold and cradle Zach, and it's even harder to only be able to touch small parts of his body during these next couple of days during his sedation, but when we finally do get the chance, it will be much more special I'm sure.
Kimmie is doing great. She has no serious pain, and her main concern right now is trying not to laugh too hard because it hurts her sutures. She has been incredibly strong throughout her pregnancy and during the delivery. She is glowing as usual, and a little puffy due to the 5 IV's she had yesterday, but she's quickly returning to her joyful self.
We hope you all enjoy this blog and check back often to track Zachary's progress. Please keep him in your prayers, pray for his healing and overall health, and we will do or best to update as much as possible. With much Love and Praise - Brian + Kimmie
